Pietro Radoia joined the solar team in early 2011, and covers southern European PV markets, secondary PV market activity, and O&M prices in Europe. Before joining Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Pietro completed an MSc in Environmental Technology at Imperial College, where he specialised in Environmental Economics & Policy. Prior to his postgraduate studies he worked for the European Photovoltaic Industry Association in Brussels for two years. Pietro speaks fluent Italian, French, Spanish and English and conversational Hungarian.
Federico joined Foresight in 2010 and currently heads the Italian Office where he leads the Solar and energy efficiency investments in Southern Europe. He was previously a Vice President within Deutsche Bank's Renewable Energy team where he was focussed on developing Solar and Wind portfolios across Europe. Federico qualified as an M&A lawyer at Allen & Overy and was admitted to the Italian Bar in 2003. He holds a BA cum laude in Law from The University of Rome.
Willi Vaassen is the Head of Business Field and Authorized Officer Solar Energy at the Cologne (Germany) based TÜV Rheinland. He has been working within the TÜV Rheinland Group in the field of renewable energies for more than 30 years. In 1980 he started as a project engineer with the responsibility or project lead for several projects related to research, evaluation and implementation of stand-alone PV- systems. In 1990 to 1995 he was responsible for the implementation of grid connected PV-systems in the so called 1000 PV-Roof-Program in Germany.
The solar team in Cologne with approximately 60 engineers and researchers are operating a PV and solar thermal test laboratory for the qualification and certification of components and systems. They execute applied research projects and PV power plant due diligence and acceptance test services.
In the role of Mr. Vaaßen as a Director of Global Competence Center PV Power Plants he coordinates content and quality assurance of PV power plant services with the other TÜV Rheinland offices internationally. Mr. Vaaßen has presented at several conferences on topics such as PV quality assurance.
Before joining RTR, from 2008 to April 2011 Paolo was CEO of Novapower, the Merloni Group company that invests in renewable energy. In that role, he authorized, funded, constructed and connected numerous photovoltaic plants both on the ground and on rooftops. Notably, Paolo is also Vice President of APER (Renewable Energy Producers' Association). During over 4 years with the Merloni Group, he also held various other positions, including Head of Business Development of Merloni Finanziaria, Chief Financial Officer of Autostrade per la Lombardia and Business Development Manager of Ariston Thermo Group. Paolo began his career in 1997 as Business Analyst in the Milan offices of the McKinsey & Co consulting firm, where he was promoted to the position of Engagement Manager in 2004. In 2001 he obtained a Master's Degree from Harvard Business School. Paolo also has a degree in Business Administration from the Luigi Bocconi University in Milan.
Mr. Stefan Degener is the Managing Director and Head of Business Development in Europe. He leads the company’s European sales and business development activities, in coordination with the company’s headquarters in Tempe, Arizona. Mr. Degener joined First Solar in 2011 as Head of Project Finance EMEA. In this role Mr. Degener was responsible for the acquisition, structuring, financing and sale of utility scale PV power plants in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Prior to joining First Solar, Mr. Degener worked for renowned German banks and brings more than 20 years of experience in the Corporate & Structured Finance and Capital Markets.
Stefan Degener holds an MBA in Business Administration with main emphasis on banking and corporate finance.
Marco Martorana has been working for UniCredit Leasing since 2009 as Energy Specialist for the renewables and energy efficiency sector.
He has been Head of Renewables Competence Center Italy and is currently Energy Asset Manager for the Italian RES portfolio.Before joining Unicredit Leasing, Marco has worked as consultant in the Energy & Environment market. He has a Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano.
Robert Pfatischer started his carreer in 1994 at IST EnergieCom, working as Project Engineer and moving up to shareholder. In 2002 he joined Meteocontrol, starting as Department Manager, moving up to Director and eventually being appointed Managing Director of the company in 2010. meteocontrol is a technological leader and one of the most innovative service providers in the solar energy sector. The company has supported solar projects for more than 30 years, and develops and markets services and products in the energy and weather data management areas.
Federico Frattini is Assistant Professor at the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering of Politecnico di Milano. He is Vice-Director of the Evening Executive MBA Program at MIP, the Business School of Politecnico di Milano, where he is also responsible for the Corporate Strategy teaching programs. He is one of the founder of Energy & Strategy Group (www.energystrategy.it), a team within Politecnico di Milano that is engaged in research and consultancy activities in the area of renewable energy, energy efficiency and circular economy. Energy & Strategy Group has been working with companies like Eni, Enel Green Power, Siemens, ABB, Edison, Sorgenia, E.On. RWE and many others, helping them understand the strategic and market dynamics affecting the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency markets in Italy and Europe.
Umberto benefits from a 20-year experience in the energy industry, where has covered various positions for both industrial and financial players; his sector experience ranges from power generation and distribution to sale of both electricity and gas. During the last 8 years, he has been completely dedicated to the renewable energy business, with a special focus on the Photovoltaic sector. In fact, before teaming-up with Antin Infrastructure Partners to create Antin Solar, Umberto has been part of the Renewable Energy Investment Team within Global Princ ipal Finance at Deutsche Bank since 2007 where he has completed financing, construction and sale of several renewable energy projects across a variety of technologies and jurisdictions.

Eleonora Denna is Product Marketing Manager for the European Market in Omrons Environmental Solution Business division. She has taken this position after three years working as Product Engineer, following PV inverter market and introducing Power Monitoring Devices market, taking care of marketing,
promotion activities and technical aspects. Eleonora has previous experience as electrical designer at AGS Energy, a System Integrator company active for PV plants and mini-wind plants. Eleonora has a Master degree in Physics Engineering at Politecnico of Milan and holds a Master in Photovoltaics and Renewable energies.
Axel Thiemann is the COO of Sonnedix, a Solar PV focussed global IPP with projects under development or operation in France, Italy, Spain, Thailand, Japan, South Africa, Puerto Rico and Chile. He leads the group’s global Asset Management, Finance, HR and IT activities based out of the UK. Prior to joining Sonnedix in 2011 Mr. Thiemann worked for Barclays Bank in London, where he held a number of senior roles in operations, business development strategy, and McKinsey & Co. in Germany. Mr. Thiemann holds an MBA from IESE Business School and a diploma in electrical engineering.
Christoph worked for over 5 years for Siemens Power Generation with over 3 years in power plant service. He joint Q-Cells Germany in January 2009 to build up the Operation & Maintenance Department for large scale solar plants. As the Head of Service he was in charge of more than 250MWp installed capacity and negotiated all O&M contracts during that time. He joint Q-Cells Australia in 2011 as Manager Power Plant Solutions. With the insolvency of Q-Cells he returned in 2012 to Berlin to fill the role as Director Service for skytron energy.
Christoph has a degree in environmental engineering and economics from the University of Applied Science and the School of Economics and Law in Berlin.
Wolfgang Conrad started his carreer as research assistant at the Technical University of Berlin. He started to be active in the wind industry as managing director of Südwind GmbH, where he was involved in the reorganization of the firm and specifically the development department. Hereafter Wolfgang joined Nordex AG, where he was involved in the organisation of the development department and later responsible for the optimisation of the N80 wind turbine.In 2002 Wolfgang joined Suzlon Energy, where he headed several wind turbine developments and key projects, establishing Suzlon Energy GmbH. Since 2013 Wolfgang has taken up the position of Chief Technology Officer at Belectric GmbH, where he drives and coordinates the development of research activities and its subsidiaries. He is also responsible for the technology standards and the development of Belectrics future development lines.
Rémy Tasse is Director of 3E’s software unit: SynaptiQ. He is in charge of business development for PV monitoring and reporting software and handles the general management of the software development, operations and customer service teams. Rémy has over 15 years of experience in the high-tech and clean-tech sectors and has co-founded two technology companies. He combines a strong background in business development in technology driven companies and he’s active in renewable energy sector since 6 years. Previously he held sales, marketing and technical positions in various innovative software companies in aeronautic and building industries. Rémy is an electro-mechanical engineer by training with a PhD in fluid dynamics from the Von Karman Insititute and the University of Brussels, Belgium.
Francesco Girardi joined Bluefield as Director of Engineering and Project Operations in September 2013. Francesco has gained solid professional experience in multinational companies operating in the Renewable Energy Sources area where he assumed increasing responsibilities roles. Strong technical background combined with management skills acquired along the photovoltaic projects value chain from project development activities to assets sales through financing, construction, commissioning and operation of PV plants. He has proven experience and track record in start up activities of NewCos operating in renewables, mainly photovoltaic. Prior than joining Bleufield, Francesco has worked in REC Group as REC Systems Italy Country Manager reaching 55 MWp installed capacity, 26 ground and roof top sites; 24 plants in operation and maintenance. Francesco has also been a former Babcock & Brown Program Manager managing a pipeline of 170 MWp projects developed in Greece and 300+ MWp in Italy. Francesco has a Master Degree in Electronics Engineer.
Mr. Álvaro Velasco holds an MSc in Industrial Engineering, energy specialist, and a Master degree in International Business Management. Before joining Enertis, Mr. Velasco worked as analyst in the forecast of Natural Gas demand for Gas Natural Fenosa, the largest gas and electricity Spanish utility. He also collaborated with the Madrid Local Government in the definition of the energy strategy plans for the city before he left to England where he was able to deepen its energy market knowledge as electricity trader for a local utility. Mr. Velasco then obtained a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Industry to participate in a Master Degree in Business Management and worked as Engineering and Infrastructure advisor in the Spanish Commercial Office in Vietnam.
Mr. Velasco joined Enertis in 2011 and gained significant experience as a consultant participating in several project-finance projects located in Spain, UK, Italy, Chile, Peru, Australia, Canada, USA and South Africa. He is the former Country Manager Italy of the company where he was in charge of numerous technical due diligence processes and on-site inspections for banks and investment funds during finance and acquisition of PV plants. He also led the deployment of the innovative PV Mobile Lab and its operation Europe-wide. Mr Velasco is currently the Country Manager South Africa where the company is especially involved in technical advisory and engineering works, from technical due diligence for financial close, construction supervision and commissioning of PV plants, to on-site and laboratory electrical testing.
Mr. Velasco has developed his career in five different countries and led the set up of several international branches.
Philip Wolfe is one of the pioneers of the renewable and community energy sectors. He is interim Director General of Community Energy England; non-executive Chairman of Westmill Solar Co-operative; a panel member of the Climate Bonds Initiative; Non-Exec Director of Communities for Renewables, Earthworm Energy Plcand Renewable Energy Assurance Ltd and founder of Wiki-Solar. He also provides advisory services through WolfeWare Limited.A Cambridge first-class engineering graduate, Philip has been involved in the sectorsince the 1970’s and was the first Chief Executive of BP Solar, before establishing Intersolar Group. He was instrumental in establishing Community Energy England and agreed to become its first Director General, having previously served as Director General of the Renewable Energy Association between 2003 and 2009, and on the Boards of other British and European bodies and advisory groups.Routledge published his book on utility-scale solar power projects in 2012. He has installed renewable energy in his home for heating and part of its electricity.
Marcel Suri is an expert in solar resource modelling and performance assessment of photovoltaic solar power plants. He has received PhD in geography and geoinformation science, and is co-author of more than 100 scientific publications. Marcel Suri is one of authors of the decision support online system PVGIS, which notably contributed to development of photovoltaics in Europe in a last decade. Marcel Suri is managing director of GeoModel Solar. The company operates online system SolarGIS, which includes global solar resource data, meteorological data and software for planning, monitoring and forecasting of solar power generation. Marcel Suri consults developers and operators of solar power plants, investors, banks, and governmental institutions. He managed a number of R&D projects, and is active in the definition and market implementation of standards, which are introducing
better transparency and increase efficiency in solar energy. In electricity utilities sector he is active in grid-integration studies related to solar photovoltaics.
Abid has over 10 years in Business outsourcing and strategic sales, with in excess of $3bn in deals originated and/or delivered across government and clean energy. He has deep knowledge and experience of UK solar development and delivery and he developed the first UK local government low carbon center of excellence.
Over the past 4 years, Abid has led the origination and structuring of 530MWp of solar projects. In Government services outsourcing, Abid has led major solution sales and delivery organisations of up to 1,000 staff, managing services to the BBC, UK Passport Office, National Air Transport, National Savings and Investments (NS&I) and many local government organisations.
Previously, Abid advised on the 1998 deregulation of Eastern Energy and post 1998 corporate strategy for Yorkshire Electricity. Abid earned his MBA at the Manchester Business School (1993).
