Pietro Radoia joined the solar team in early 2011, and covers southern European PV markets, secondary PV market activity, and O&M prices in Europe. Before joining Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Pietro completed an MSc in Environmental Technology at Imperial College, where he specialised in Environmental Economics & Policy. Prior to his postgraduate studies he worked for the European Photovoltaic Industry Association in Brussels for two years. Pietro speaks fluent Italian, French, Spanish and English and conversational Hungarian.
Paolo Michele Sonvilla holds a MSc in Electronic Engineering (University of Trieste, Italy) and a Master of Business Administration (INSEAD, France). Paolo started his professional career in the telecommunications sector, working in several European countries on the development and commercial launch of mobile telecommunications devices. After completing his MBA studies in 2006, Paolo gained interest in the renewable energy sector and since then he has been collaborating with several organisations.
Paolo started his collaboration with ECLAREON in 2007, initially focusing on strategy consulting projects in the Italian PV sector, taking part to M&A, commercial strategy and business planning activities. Thanks to the international reach of ECLAREON he later broadened his interests and skills towards the policy consulting and European projects areas. In these fields he has authored several research studies, including contributions to the AEON Tren Barriers and RES Integration projects. He has also led the submission and negotiation of several European project proposals. In particular, from 2009 onwards Paolo co-managed the PV LEGAL and PV GRID Intelligent Energy Europe programme projects. Paolo is currently responsible for developing the ECLAREON Madrid office’s strategy for European and other international procurement and co-funding programmes for technology R&D, demonstration and market uptake activities in the fields of renewable energy, smart grids and energy efficiency.
Paolo is fluent in Italian, English and Spanish and he also has a good familiarity with French.
Federico joined Foresight in 2010 and currently heads the Italian Office where he leads the Solar and energy efficiency investments in Southern Europe. He was previously a Vice President within Deutsche Bank's Renewable Energy team where he was focussed on developing Solar and Wind portfolios across Europe. Federico qualified as an M&A lawyer at Allen & Overy and was admitted to the Italian Bar in 2003. He holds a BA cum laude in Law from The University of Rome.
Willi Vaassen is the Head of Business Field and Authorized Officer Solar Energy at the Cologne (Germany) based TÜV Rheinland. He has been working within the TÜV Rheinland Group in the field of renewable energies for more than 30 years. In 1980 he started as a project engineer with the responsibility or project lead for several projects related to research, evaluation and implementation of stand-alone PV- systems. In 1990 to 1995 he was responsible for the implementation of grid connected PV-systems in the so called 1000 PV-Roof-Program in Germany.
The solar team in Cologne with approximately 60 engineers and researchers are operating a PV and solar thermal test laboratory for the qualification and certification of components and systems. They execute applied research projects and PV power plant due diligence and acceptance test services.
In the role of Mr. Vaaßen as a Director of Global Competence Center PV Power Plants he coordinates content and quality assurance of PV power plant services with the other TÜV Rheinland offices internationally. Mr. Vaaßen has presented at several conferences on topics such as PV quality assurance.
Before joining RTR, from 2008 to April 2011 Paolo was CEO of Novapower, the Merloni Group company that invests in renewable energy. In that role, he authorized, funded, constructed and connected numerous photovoltaic plants both on the ground and on rooftops. Notably, Paolo is also Vice President of APER (Renewable Energy Producers' Association). During over 4 years with the Merloni Group, he also held various other positions, including Head of Business Development of Merloni Finanziaria, Chief Financial Officer of Autostrade per la Lombardia and Business Development Manager of Ariston Thermo Group. Paolo began his career in 1997 as Business Analyst in the Milan offices of the McKinsey & Co consulting firm, where he was promoted to the position of Engagement Manager in 2004. In 2001 he obtained a Master's Degree from Harvard Business School. Paolo also has a degree in Business Administration from the Luigi Bocconi University in Milan.
Matías Gallego has previous experience in R&D, engineering, counseling and consulting solar PV Projects. He has been involved at several levels in the development, design, implementation and maintenance of solar energy projects. From 2006 to 2009 he has developed his professional career in a top European PV modules manufacturer, where he has held positions in the R&D, Construction of Facilities and Aftersales. From 2009 to the beginning of 2011 he has served as Technical Director of the Italian branch of such module manufacturer.
In 2011 he joined to Langley Renovables (PVdiagnosis) and later to Vector Cuatro, where he has worked in the technical department with responsibility for the activities of engineering, consulting and auditing of PV installations in operation. Most recently, in December 2012 he became the firm’s Technical Director focusing mainly in the Asset Management activities.
Matías has a degree in Physics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Postgraduate in Physics of Complex Systems at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid.
Mr. Stefan Degener is the Managing Director and Head of Business Development in Europe. He leads the company’s European sales and business development activities, in coordination with the company’s headquarters in Tempe, Arizona. Mr. Degener joined First Solar in 2011 as Head of Project Finance EMEA. In this role Mr. Degener was responsible for the acquisition, structuring, financing and sale of utility scale PV power plants in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Prior to joining First Solar, Mr. Degener worked for renowned German banks and brings more than 20 years of experience in the Corporate & Structured Finance and Capital Markets.
Stefan Degener holds an MBA in Business Administration with main emphasis on banking and corporate finance.
Marco Martorana has been working for UniCredit Leasing since 2009 as Energy Specialist for the renewables and energy efficiency sector.
He has been Head of Renewables Competence Center Italy and is currently Energy Asset Manager for the Italian RES portfolio.Before joining Unicredit Leasing, Marco has worked as consultant in the Energy & Environment market. He has a Postgraduate Degree in Environmental Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano.
Edmée Kelsey brings a wealth of solar asset management expertise to her role as founder and CEO of 3megawatt. 3megawatt provides solar asset management software designed to support asset owners with managing their solar portfolio risks and asset managers with reducing their asset management costs. As former CFO of Main Street Power, she closed project financing for over 100 of distributed solar PV projects and was responsible for the asset management of those solar assets.
As a former VP at the investment bank JP Morgan and managing director of a clean energy corporate finance advisory firm, she gained a deep understanding of the requirements of project finance providers and sponsors, funds and investors. Her background as a founder and CEO of a venture-backed telecom service provider brings utility billing, asset tracking and O&M service ticketing experience.
Robert Pfatischer started his carreer in 1994 at IST EnergieCom, working as Project Engineer and moving up to shareholder. In 2002 he joined Meteocontrol, starting as Department Manager, moving up to Director and eventually being appointed Managing Director of the company in 2010. meteocontrol is a technological leader and one of the most innovative service providers in the solar energy sector. The company has supported solar projects for more than 30 years, and develops and markets services and products in the energy and weather data management areas.
Federico Frattini is Assistant Professor at the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering of Politecnico di Milano. He is Vice-Director of the Evening Executive MBA Program at MIP, the Business School of Politecnico di Milano, where he is also responsible for the Corporate Strategy teaching programs. He is one of the founder of Energy & Strategy Group (www.energystrategy.it), a team within Politecnico di Milano that is engaged in research and consultancy activities in the area of renewable energy, energy efficiency and circular economy. Energy & Strategy Group has been working with companies like Eni, Enel Green Power, Siemens, ABB, Edison, Sorgenia, E.On. Miguel A. Fernandez has an extensive experience in the solar energy sector. Before joining SunEdison he worked 4 years at BP Solar, where he occupied different leadership positions always related to large scale photovoltaic projects, including Director of large scale projects worldwide. In addition, he worked 10 years at IDOM, one of the Spanish leading companies at engineering and technical and financial consultancy. He has worked as a consultant for several business areas, included renewable energies, both in the private and public sectors.
Miguel A. Fernandez is a Mining Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, and earned an MBA from IESE Business School. He also completed a program in Sales and Marketing Management at the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago (USA).
Michael Haerig is Head of Industry Practice Power and Utility group for Germany and Australia, as well as Head of Power and Technical Insurances for the region West at Marsh. He is specialized in risk- and insurance management with focus on power and utility, as well as the realization of projects in the field of Risk & Insurance Due Diligence. Michael received his education from the Max-Planck-Institute in Stuttgart.
Alexander Rietz joined KGAL in 2013 and is the portfolio manager of the “European Solar Power Fund”, an institutional fund covering European photovoltaic assets with EUR 400 million under management. Prior to KGAL he worked for Siemens in energy technology strategy, as business manager for an international renewable energy joint venture and on venture and growth capital financing in the industrial and energy sectors. Before being with Siemens, Alexander lived in South Africa and was employed in power sector consultancy as well as in startup financing. Alexander received has master of business administration from Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany.
Cedric Brehaut is an expert in the monitoring and operations & maintenance of PV systems with extensive experience in the solar industry and over thirteen years in Silicon Valley. After seven years spent developing, managing and marketing security software products, Cedric joined the solar industry in 2007 as a director of product management for SunEdison and was a key contributor to the development and growth of the company’s services business unit. During Cedric’s tenure, SunEdison created and launched a new suite of turnkey services for PV plants, including managed monitoring, operations & maintenance, billing, and asset reporting services. Cedric also acted as the business development leader for these products. In 2011, he established SoliChamba Consulting and began offering consulting services to various firms in the solar industry. In 2012 and 2013, Cedric authored the solar industry's most comprehensive reports on PV monitoring and operations & maintenance (O&M) markets, published by GTM Research: 'Global PV Monitoring: Technologies, Markets and Leading Players' and 'Megawatt-Scale PV Plant Operations and Maintenance: Services, Markets and Competitors'.
Christoph worked for over 5 years for Siemens Power Generation with over 3 years in power plant service. He joint Q-Cells Germany in January 2009 to build up the Operation & Maintenance Department for large scale solar plants. As the Head of Service he was in charge of more than 250MWp installed capacity and negotiated all O&M contracts during that time. He joint Q-Cells Australia in 2011 as Manager Power Plant Solutions. With the insolvency of Q-Cells he returned in 2012 to Berlin to fill the role as Director Service for skytron energy.
Christoph has a degree in environmental engineering and economics from the University of Applied Science and the School of Economics and Law in Berlin.
Eleonora Denna is Product Marketing Manager for the European Market in Omrons Environmental Solution Business division. She has taken this position after three years working as Product Engineer, following PV inverter market and introducing Power Monitoring Devices market, taking care of marketing,
promotion activities and technical aspects. Eleonora has previous experience as electrical designer at AGS Energy, a System Integrator company active for PV plants and mini-wind plants. Eleonora has a Master degree in Physics Engineering at Politecnico of Milan and holds a Master in Photovoltaics and Renewable energies.
Mr. Thiemann joined Sonnedix from Barclays Bank in London where over a period of seven years he held various senior leadership positions and most recently was Director of Business Development for the UKRB business unit comprising Insurance, Investments, Premier Banking, Marketing, Insights, Propositions and Voice of Customer. In this capacity, Mr. Thiemann was responsible for strategy, planning, new opportunity development, sales process and operations design and management, change management, governance and controls.
Prior to this position, Mr. Thiemann was COO of Barclays £7 billion UK unsecured lending business, accountable for telephony sales and service, collections, operations and change execution. Additionally, Mr. Thiemann also led a number of Change, Business Development and Strategy teams within the Bank.
Previously, Mr. Thiemann was a Senior Associate at McKinsey and Company in Colgone, Germany providing strategic advice to early and growth stage businesses as well as to multinational corporations in the Telecommunications, Insurance and Manufacturing sectors. While at McKinsey, Mr. Thiemann also performed extensive pro-bono work focusing on the promotion and support of Entrepreneurship. Mr. Thiemann holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Universität Hannover, Germany, as well as an MBA from IESE Business School.
